8th Grade Scholarship Program

8th Grade Scholarship Program

Awarding character-based scholarships and tuition support creates educational opportunity.  FON awards high school scholarships to the eighth graders who best demonstrate a commitment to character and tuition support to 5th, 6th and 7th grade students.  In selecting scholarship recipients each year, the FON committees consider both recommendations from principals and teachers, as well as detailed student essays, which draw on the students’ life and what character means to them.  These essays are a pivotal component of the FON program, and challenge each student to articulate their experience in thoughtful and honest prose.

"I wasn't prepared for what happened when I sat down to read the student essays. They are powerful evidence of the meaningful intervention this program is having in the life of every child given this opportunity. How wonderful it is to know that our children are getting this much needed additional assistance in their lives. Thank you Friends of Nick!"-Darla Romfo, President of the Children Scholarship Fund
